Why do we Save Things for Best?
This is my new bag:
I love my new bag.
I love it so much that I don’t want to ruin it by actually using it. Instead Im going to just pop the bag within a protective bag, and put it in my wardrobe where it can sit with all the other new things that never get used as they too are saved for best.
Please, please tell me that I’m not the only sad case that does this!?
I have shoes that I can only wear in the perfect storm of conditions… They are suede and as I haven’t bought the suede protector, the shoes can only come out of hibernation when it’s a day without a hint of rain or moisture in the air. It also can’t have rained the day before just incase the ground is still wet. In fact, they can’t even be worn on any other surface than DRY pavement or indoors, so bearing in mind I live in England, they stay in their shoe box prisons without much chance of day release.
I have one particular purple dress that has sat in my wardrobe for two yeas now and has only been worn once. Yet again, the perfect conditions must prevail… The dress is for going ‘out out’. The dress is fitted so cant be worn to dinner in case I eat too much, let alone want to sit comfortably OR exhale. Basically the dress can only be worn on ‘thin days’. Unfortunately I don’t seem to have many of those, so the likelihood of the dress ever seeing the light of day again is quite limited. The dress is sad.
So what do I do while I wait for the perfect storm? I wear the same old worn, yet comfy crap day after day and wonder why I look like I got dressed in the dark. Every now and again, I have an epiphany where I think “Sod it! I’m going to dress like a movie star whether anyone sees me or not!” and on that day my husband will be greeted by me when he comes home, generally wearing something completely unsuitable (but fabulous) for cooking dinner in. Think evening dress and 5 inch heels.
That’s all well and good, but it’s not really that comfy for a Netflix binge on the sofa, so normality is always resumed 24 hours later, and the outfits are zipped back up in their protective sheaths within the wardrobe, with the other lifers to await their unlikely parole date.
